English Dub Review: Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina “The Everyday Tale of Every Ashen Witch”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Elaina visits the country that can make people’s wishes come true. She encounters fifteen versions of herself. They all have different aspects of her personality. They try to figure out how to handle the violent Elaina attacking them. It turns out that she fell into despair after the events of the clock tower town with the Lavender witch. The violent Elaina finds them and takes her anger out on them. After constantly fighting with the violent Elaina and Elaina talks with her about the real reason why all of them have gathered.
They all decide to share their journeys with each other while having a sleepover in Mirarose’s castle. They decide to name their story: The Wandering Witch after much discussion. Elaina wakes up on a grassy plain, before stopping at a crossroads and goes down a different path. Elaina arrives in another country and bumps into a girl called Amnesia. They part ways with their journals in the other girl’s hands.
Our Take:
The Wandering Witch ends on an open ending with Elaina visiting another country. However, the country is different from the others as mist surrounds it. Elaina recognizes the buildings as part of the places she’s been to before arriving in the country.
Additionally on the surface, it may seem that Elaina meeting her different personalities was for comedy. However, this episode answers the issue of Elaina not changing from experiencing the darker parts of her journey from the Ripper to the murderer of the clock tower. It’s an interesting way to confront the issue with the multiples traits that compose her character. Usually, there’s a magical item that separates the personalities from the original, but these Elaina’s are all original. They’re all different from their own journeys where they’ve made different choices from the Elaina we know. Some are funny and some are downright depressing, but it’s funny how they interact with each other in the castle.
The violent Elaina is the origin of conflict as she attacks the other Elaina’s that she claims are too carefree. She’s the Elaina who broke down after the events of the Ripper and the clock town. Her short hair and bags under her eyes are proof that she’s been through a lot because of her choices. Their battle proves that despite their choices they are equals in magic and they later exhaust themselves out. Elaina tells the truth on why they’ve all gathered at that place and helps the violent Elaina heal from her pain with the other Elaina’s.
People make choices in their journeys and how it’ll affect their paths is what this episode is all about as Elaina meets her other-selves. This is evident when Elaina is at a literal crossroads. It directs her to the country that claims to grant wishes and another country. However, in the end, Elaina goes in the opposite direction and continues her journey to a foreign country.
Overall it was a decent final episode. Elaina continues her journey as the wandering witch writing down her tales in her journal.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
