English Dub Review: So I’m a Spider, So What? “I Can’t Speak, Isekai?”
Overview
The revered hero, Julius, has returned from his epic journey. Shun is excited at first, but it’s short-lived when Julius announces he’s headed for the Empire next with the claim that demons are making troubling moves. And that it could mean a large-scale battle in the future…
Our Take
The series itself is starting to take a much darker tone now and I like the direction it’s going. We finally meet Administrator D and a bunch of new characters. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about Julius. He does have the will to carry his role but the character itself needs more development. In terms of supernatural content, there are demons to deal with. This progressively continues to feel like two separate storylines in one anime. The outside world keeps expanding the universe, while the inside dungeon keeps focusing on the inner workings of the Spider’s mind and her steps to survival against the otherworldly predators that await her.
Aside from an unexpected character death. The Spider-Lady did get a little bit of spotlight with the end to her fight against a dragon. Gladly she beat it leveling up a ton in the process. Has that three kinds of evil eye skills to use now. Though the scenes between Administrator D and Spider-Lady trying to communicate and then what looks like a cellphone popping up out of nowhere was hilarious. For those of you who don’t know, the title itself refers to the anime subgenre of “Isekai” which often involves storylines about characters from present-day stuck in other worlds or time periods which was popularized by shows such as “Sword Art Online”, “Overlord”, “Rising of the Shield Hero” and “Inuyasha” where the main character has to play by the rules of a JRPG-inspired fantasy world or another time period with a small touch of video game-like mechanics thrown in.
While this was a nice episode full of character revelations, it would have been nice if we didn’t go from level 3 to 15 on the Spider-Lady’s end which feels like an unexplained time skip. The Story would’ve been slightly more coherent if it told us there was a time skip last episode and we’re at the forefront of that reality since she was level 15 when she fought the dragon whereas for us she was still level 3. I’m looking forward to what the next few episodes will potentially bring, which should be compelling.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
