English Dub Review: Mars Red “Till Death Do Us Part”
Overview:
We get to see a little bit more about how vampires work in this world. Maeda meets his team of vampires and we even get to see a little bit of them in action as they take on a vampire couple.
Our Take:
Last time I had to gush about Sean Schemmel and honestly, I still can’t believe that is him as Maeda. Speaking of Maeda, while he may be the leader of the group something tells me he isn’t meant to be the main character. I have two trains of thought on this. We are introduced to Kurusu pretty early on in the episode. It’s not outright stated but I believe he is the one we see attacked in an apparent war with Russia.
The vampire that attacked him was an S-Rank vampire thus making him an A-Rank vampire. They don’t go too much into how the rankings work but this has “main character” vibes written all over it. The second point is he is voiced by Zach Aguilar who is probably best known right now as Tanjiro from the immensely popular Demon Slayer. He has been getting a lot of main character roles and I think this will be one. It also bears mentioning that the reporter Aoi Shirase (Caitlin Glass) keeps mentioning a childhood friend that was reported dead fighting in Russia. My money is on Kurusu being that friend.
I’d like to shout out Signal.MD the studio behind Mars Red. The animation was really crisp and nice in the first episode but since this one had a bit more action they got to show off a bit more. The way they showcased the speed of the vampires in battle was really cool. I am a sucker for animation sequences showing characters moving so fast they are invisible and this nailed that. I hope they have more action sequences later and can really show what they can do.
The vampire that burned up in the sunlight last time is being covered up. The actress Misaki is being rumored to have eloped and left town. I thought everyone knew about vampires but apparently, it is pretty secret here. So having a whole squad of vampires is going to be interesting. I know military secrets isn’t exactly a new plot point, neither is using the “enemy” against them but I think this could be unique.
I am once again impressed by this show, but it could go either way. I am unfamiliar with the source since it’s a play I am hopeful we will get something that is beyond the standard. I think this could be one of those diamonds in the rough that doesn’t get too much attention in the season it airs but people love it all the same. Looking forward to the next episode!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
