English Dub Review: Horimiya “The Truth Deception Reveals”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Miyamura dreams of his younger self in middle school. He reassures his younger self that he shouldn’t end his life and that he’ll have friends in the future. Miyamura wakes from the dream wanting to see Hori. Meanwhile, Remi discusses how she and Sengoku met and started bonding over before confessing to each other. At Hori’s place, Hori paints Miyamura’s toenails. He gives in to the urge to mess with her by putting his foot on his head. Even though he apologizes for it Hori doesn’t mind and she’s actually curious about the idea of a mean Miyamura.
The next day he acts mean which befuddled their friends. He tells them that he’s doing it because of Hori. In the AV room, Miyamura acts mean to Hori, but it scares the girls passing by and they chat about it. A guy in class six, Yanagi confesses to Yuki and as she mulls it over after four days she tells Hori and Miyamura who pick up on her mood. Ishikawa poses as her fake boyfriend as she rejects Yanagi who looks like a model. This spurs reactions from Ishikawa, Hori, and Miyamura on why Yuki is rejecting him. Yuki finds out that Yanagi has bad eyesight and thinks that he made a misunderstanding with her for Hori. Yanagi clears up that misunderstanding and joins the friend group.
Our Take:
From’s Miyamura’s dream at the beginning of the episode you would think that the rest of the episode would follow him. However, after the opening, it switches to Remi who discusses her relationship with Sengoku and how she met him. That was a bit jarring to follow even if it was nice to know how the two met. On a minor note, I think it’s sweet how the animation has Hori appear from bright light as she’s the one who broadened his high school life.
Now Remi and Sengoku’s relationship is cute. From Remi’s perspective, we get to see Sengoku in a different light. Like with his fear of bugs and still overcoming it for Remi. I’m glad that Sengoku also includes Sakura in their book trade too. Sengoku’s confession was adorable with her question on what he would do if the world ended in a day.
As for Hori and Miyamura’s relationship, Hori’s request for Miyamura to act dominating was okay. At least she doesn’t keep on pushing him to act like that. Miyamura’s response to her question on him messing around with Shindo was sweet. It speaks volumes about how he treasures her along with his willingness to act as a mean person.
Yuki’s reply to Yanagi’s confession with Ishikawa as her fake boyfriend really makes me lean towards their friendship becoming something more. There are also everyone’s reactions to how Yuki could reject the good-looking Yanagi. The scene gave me a good laugh and it shows that Yuki isn’t going to like someone because of their appearance. Yanagi’s bad insight gives Yuki some doubt on his confession, but he knows what she looks like even with his bad sight.
Overall the episode entertaining with the relationship and Yanagi’s confession to Yuki. Although I do wonder how the anime will juggle all these characters.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
