Review: Momma Named Me Sheriff “Puddin'” ; “Membership”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
“Puddin'”
Sheriff’s got an addiction and his drug is pudding. Carl tries to help him by putting him in rehab, but he escapes and ends up in a basement with Goodman and Tommy, all of whom are imprisoned by Momma thanks to the powers of pudding. A fight scene ensues between mother and son but the two make up and Tommy turns into a zombie and is put in Carl’s rehab.
“Membership”
Goodman’s former employer launches a subscription app and he’s stuck with the bill after Sheriff and Dispatch order so much crap it fills up the office and nearly kills him. Goodman’s only option is to travel the ends of the Earth and look for the cancellation department but the corporation imprisons him. Similar to The Dark Knight Rises, Goodman’s only escape is by climbing up a large hole. Incredibly, he does just that, but first Goodman has to take part in a gladiatorial battle to the death in order to complete his cancellation. A chase ensues with Goodman returning to Old Town and his office where he drowns but is able to be resuscitated thanks to Dispatch. Because the company has a death clause, Goodman is able to get out of his membership but Sheriff puts him in another one.
Our Take
Both episodes feature Will Carsola and Dave Stewart’s best assets as directors and producers, the action sequences. While still not as frenetic and batshit crazy as Mr. Pickles, it’s still better than a lot of the competition. The fight scene climax in “Puddin” was well done even if it was a bit laid back as it pertains to violence, but “Membership” more than made up for it with a plot that should have been in South Park but is instead here. The result is a love letter to movie franchises like Laurence of Arabia, The Dark Knight Rises, and Gladiator accompanied with Jay Johnston’s excellent delivery as
“Goodman”.
Only a couple more weeks left and Momma Named Me Sheriff is making it really difficult to not watch each and every week.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
