Review: Momma Named Me Sheriff “Election” ; “The Case of Sad, Sad, Sheriff”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
“Election”
It’s election season at the station and Mrs. Goodman decides to run for Sheriff. To try to raise is street cred, Sheriff starts a Snapchat but that doesn’t work so the President intervenes and gives a resounding endorsement of the incumbent candidate. Unfortunately, the Sheriff gets arrested for indecent exposure and Mrs. Goodman becomes the new sheriff. Pissed off at receiving bad advice from the leader of the free world, the Sheriff confronts the President at a dick-measuring contest where Mrs. Goodman joins in the team-up. The winning candidate resigns from her position for a much better gig.
“The Case of Sad, Sad, Sheriff”
Old Town is part of a conspiracy to hide the fact that today is Sheriff’s birthday so Dispatch is on the case to figure out what the deal is. We learn that Sheriff used to frequent a restaurant called Honky B’s that has since been shut down by the town but because of a soda that causes him to go insane. Dispatch helps Sheriff track down another Honky B’s where the Old Town residents are already waiting for him. The party ensues leaving the kids traumatized.
Our Take
One of the things I miss most about Mr. Pickles is the serial aspect of the series. From week-to-week you had no idea if Grampa was finally going to get Mr. Pickles in trouble for all of the crazy shit he did or what really was going on down in that underground lair of his. I mention that only because I would love to see a show with Mrs. Goodman flying fighter jets in whatever manner that was presented to me. It’s not something that is going to happen because Momma Named Me Sheriff is quite a bit more episodic than Mr. Pickles, but that small scene at the end of the “Election” episode could make for an entire series if need be.
That said, “The Case of Sad, Sad, Sheriff” was pretty awesome in it’s execution. In what was both a bit of an origin story for the Sheriff as well as for Deputy, only Will Carsola and Dave Stewart can pull of a franchise that features bats in what was almost like being part of Deputy’s sitcom family. Between his homicidal brother, rather docile parents, and the collective that makes for cheap air travel, nobody in adult animation goes to this level of thought. Not far off from this point is measuring dinosaur dicks during an “Election” which is a pretty accurate representation of what we just went through during the 2020 Election cycle.
The finale is incoming, and it looks to be a doozy.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
