English Dub Review: Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town? “Suppose a Majestic Lion Showed Up to the Petting Section of a Zoo and Dozed Off?”
Overview(Possible Spoilers):
Picking up where we left off last week, Lloyd failed the soldier exam somehow. Selen, Riho, and even Merthophan are looking in the class for him. They can’t understand how someone of his caliber failed. It doesn’t take long for us to find out why Lloyd failed. Merthophan shows them his written exam and it looks like Lloyd just doodled on the whole thing but under closer inspection from Choline we can see all his answers were advanced rune magic! The soldiers need to find the missing princess of the kingdom with one of the rewards being anything you wish for. So, Selen and Riho resolve to find the princess and ask for Lloyd to be admitted to the academy.
Meanwhile, Lloyd is distraught with his failure but sees a help-wanted poster for a cafe. He goes to apply and gets attacked by the owner, which he of course dodges easily. It seems everyone can sense Lloyd’s power because the owner is instantly fearful of Lloyd. This stems from the fact the owner is former royal guard Chrome (Justice Washington). When Lloyd just makes the best risotto he’s ever had Chrome is a bit confused.
Our Take:
This show just keeps ramping up the comedy, so if you’re looking for a laugh you should be tuning in every week. There is no loss between sub and dub. In fact, there was even a joke this week that I don’t recall being in the sub and I laughed hard at it. All of the characters play off each other so well that the laughs almost never stop. I like to write notes when doing my reviews and there were more than a few times I had to pause the show to compose myself.
One of the few negatives I can see showing up with this show is the broken power system. If the only thing the people of Kunlun have to worry about are demon lords are we gonna see nothing but demon lords? I mean as long as it is hilarious I don’t think it will be a huge deal. This isn’t meant to be a huge action show, it’s clear we are heavily leaning towards comedy. There is a possible war coming though so who knows? Maybe, it will become more serious later on but I am worried that would make it lose what makes it unique.
What I really love is how almost everyone can sense how powerful Lloyd is. When they do sense it, they sense it as killing intent as well which is hilarious to see their reactions every time. This time it was the cafe owner Chrome who we got to see freak out and he never really stopped. He thought Lloyd was just trying to catch him off guard by cooking for him, but nope Lloyd just wanted to show off his cooking skills. Like everything else, he is great at it, why can’t people see him for the cinnamon roll he is?
Selen is earning her best girl status so far for me this episode with all the yandere moments. Seeing her say nothing but “Sir Lloyd” for five minutes with yandere eyes while panicking that he wasn’t there was gold. Don’t get me wrong Riho, Mario and Choline are all great but I am firmly aboard the S.S. Selen. Most of the side characters in this show are really good and add to the comedy. We got more of the stuck-up noble Alan in this episode which allowed Billy Kametz to flex his awesomeness. He refused to fight Lloyd because he is a civilian but his commanding officer really wanted to see Lloyd fight so convinced him to do it.
I am very excited to see what the rest of the season brings for this show if it got this much better after just one episode. Though I’m sure there might be some dud episodes I am gonna be hopeful that it won’t be that way! I would say keep tuning in, if for nothing else the titles of each episode. I mean come on, did you see that thing? See you all next episode!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
