Review: The Movie Show Does a Finale

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Deb and Wade are putting the smackdown in the season finale. The hosts discuss the forthcoming Godzilla vs Kong blockbuster and place their bets to see who will come out on top. Meanwhile, Gary reveals that he was once a professional wrestler and accidentally challenges Godzilla’s foe to a wrestling match. Plus, Deb investigates how sexy Harrison Ford is during their Indiana Jones discussion, and Wade gives his take on one of Deb’s favorite movies, Mad Max: Fury Road

Our Take:

It looks like the hosts are closing out the season with a bang. How? Why, by having wrestling as its central theme, of course. This episode has it all, including a match-up between Gary and Mothra, plenty of anger, and some of the worst wrestling taunts that I have ever heard on television. I’m not a massive fan of wrestling myself, but the episode sure has a way to make it more engaging and hilarious.

It made sense for the show to do a wrestling-themed scenario as its season finale since the hosts are placing their bets on who will win in Godzilla vs Kong. Now that’s a match I will pay top dollar to see. While Wade believes that King Kong will be victorious, Deb was dumb enough to side with Godzilla. No offense to Deb, but I think Kong is athletic enough to pummel the giant lizard to a pulp. This little debate was amusing to watch but not as funny as Mothra, who was pretty jealous of Godzilla for fighting Kong instead of her. She happened to take her anger out on Gary, who goes by the wrestling name Frog Dog, in an embarrassing yet entertaining wrestling match in the show’s conclusion.

The discussion towards the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel only involves whether or not Harrison Ford is sexy enough to make love to in his 70s. It isn’t without its moments, such as Deb comparing Ford’s sex level to Ben Affleck’s. However, it would’ve been nice if they took the time to discuss their additional thoughts on the film. Then again, we haven’t heard that much about the Indiana Jones sequel ourselves, so it made sense why they went in that direction.

Thankfully, Wade’s review on one of Deb’s favorite films, Mad Max: Fury Road, managed to pick the episode back up. Not just because I agree with Wade about how great the movie is, but also because of Deb’s road rage montage. That segment alone has to be the best part of the episode, in my eyes. I found it incredibly hilarious for a couple of reasons: Deb raging out at the other drivers with her potty mouth and its relatability. Let’s face it; no one likes it when other people do stupid stuff on the road.

The Movie Show’s wrestling-themed episode is a comical scenario with one significant segment, one good segment, and one okay segment. Most of the humor in the episode had pile-driven my funny bones with delight, especially the road rage segment and Mothra being a wrestler. It’s a smackdown that also served as a fitting and painless closure to the show itself.
