English Dub Review: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? “(Ultra Soul) Showdown”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Weine finds herself in trouble as Tiona, a member of the Loki familia chases after her. However, after saving a girl from a crumbling bridge Tiona lets her go. Meanwhile, Bell meets up with Haruhime and they find Weine, but Bete catches their scent and follows them. Haruhime makes herself the distraction as Bell and Weine slip away. Aisha comes to her rescue as Bell and Weine get intercepted by Ais. Meanwhile, Welf and Mikoto get discovered but are saved by Tsubaki, the captain of the Hephaestus familia.

They fight until Bell launches a firebolt to the building in order to escape. Bell hands Weine the magic tool to communicate with Hestia as he guards the door. Weine goes back and proves that she more than a monster to Ais by pulling out her nails and her wing. Ais lets them go with a healing item for Wiene as they reunite with the other Xenos who have another path to the Knossos. However, Fels’s group runs into a dead-end, and Hermes tells them to die.

Our Take:

The confrontation between Bell and Ais is here, and it was nice. The fight was good, but the emotional conflict added to the fight, and later when Wiene shows that she is more than just a monster.

Now Weine saving the girl despite knowing that the girl could reject her like before was a risk that she was willing to take. Tiona sees Wiene saves the girl from the debris, and she decides to let Wiene go. She warns Wiene since other people aren’t as soft-hearted as she is. That is a good moment to show her development with Bell’s influence. Furthermore, Weine’s actions force Ais to reconsider her thoughts on monsters. Wiene pulls out her claws and her wing while rending her injured as she talks about her loneliness. It was a gruesome scene, and the background music even emphasized it with the lack of it. These moments are a good push to the coexistence that Xenos seeks, but it’ll be a long road before that happens.

Then there’s the Hestia familia versus the Loki familia with their identities exposed now. The backlash is going to be brutal for the familia if the Loki familia decides to spill. However, there are even more pressing matters with Hermes and his “favor” for the Xenos to drop dead. His tone in contrast with his usual demeanor was surprising, and I do worry about what he has planned for them. If he decides to just throw them to the Loki familia then Bell and the others aren’t going to sit by and let it happen.

Overall it was a good episode with action and heartwarming moments. However, it looks Hermes has a different plan for the Xenos I wonder how they’ll get through Hermes’ scheme.
