Review: Gēmusetto: Death Beat(s) “Fdim; F#Min7”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Shit has hit the fan for Makasu and friends as the Center of All Death quickly approaches, but the fan-shitting is interrupted by a strange hairless, noseless, and nipple-less man calling himself “The Perfect Human” who towers over the gang. They initially want to impress the man but he soon turns his powers of observation on them, forcing them to overcome their respective insecurities. He also reveals that Makasu is his son’s clone’s clone’s son, meaning Makasu is like…definitely messed up genetically. Also there are apparently some other people doing other stuff somewhere else.

OUR TAKE

Gemusetto has never strayed from poking fun at the weirdest shit anime has done, so it was probably only a matter of time before they got to something like this. Having takes one what “the perfect being” is certainly something that I’ve seen stuff like DBZ or Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, so it’s not like there isn’t precedent for it, though I certainly haven’t seen it done like this. Same with stopping one’s story right in the middle of something potentially interesting in order to suddenly focus on this new thing, which is where some potential issues with this come in. Obviously this show is more focused on making its weird jokes than the story it says it wants to follow, but even then it’s managed to make something work out of that up until now. With this, it kinda seems like the joke of “haha weird anime bullshit” has started to implode on itself a bit, even if it still evokes feelings of “yep that is definitely a thing that happens”. This show has always made me feel like if I’m talking or explaining what’s going on at this level of detail, I’m missing the joke, but this time it feels like I have to explain why the joke didn’t work.

I mean, hooray for the characters getting development and going through the trial of overcoming their issues, even with as suddenly they come about and then are done away with, it’s just that they’re so suddenly that I couldn’t really register it. But hey, we’re now down to the final handful of episodes so I guess we’ll see how this all pays off soon. Or…WILL WE? Based on the previews showing the return of Bendy Rivers as a kitty maid, I’d say it’s already on a pretty high level.

Error happened.
