Review: Apple and Onion Special (Episodes 10-13)

In what feels like an hour-long special, we get four episodes in a row with each of them offering something wacky and fun but in different ways.

For “Slobbery” the episode itself felt like a weird elaborate plan for the duo just to binge-watch 12 hours of a show that judging from the art style looks like a “Game of Thrones” rip-off but encounter some unusual trouble due to an “annoying roommate” by the named trail mix bar from Africa who comes across as a calm hippie who is ironically a better and responsible roommate compared to Burgar and his sheer laziness. And much of the episode is spent on the duo getting his ass out despite not causing any direct harm and not being an annoyance whatsoever just so Burgar can distract their landlord which is not without hilarious yet meaningful consequences…

“Microwave’s Dance Club” has a decent setup with the titular Microwave being a dance club that surprisingly decent music that understands the euro-techno/techno genre to a T. Also much of the humor is the duo attempting to infiltrate the club which leads to them attempting to become famous so they can get access to the “VIP room through a series of comedic mishaps with an unexpected yet funny payoff at the end.

“All Work and No Play” is possibly one more intricate episode in this series so far as the titular duo have an elaborate plan which backfires in the worst way imaginable, along with an ending that’s funny on a “harsh reality” level.  Finally, “Drone Shoes” in which Onion invents something weird, but near the episode’s end, it leads to one of the weirdest and funniest twist endings in recent memory.

Overall this was an unexpected surprise, but they all excelled in terms of storytelling and wackiness.
