English Dub Review: Jujutsu Kaisen “Curse Womb Must Die -II-“

Overview:

As the dust settles and Sukuna (Ray Chase) emerges, a gripping battle between him and Megumi (Robbie Daymond) will unfold as the jujutsu sorcerer fights for the life of his comrade.

Our Take:

After the fallout of the first part, “Curse Womb Must Die -II-” wastes no time in setting the repercussions in motion as Sukuna awakes from his slumber and takes over Itadori’s body. Immediately from the gecko Sukuna takes him hostage by ripping out his heart like the vicious beast he is, knowing that Yuji will die if he switches back. Ray Chase absolutely continues to dominate as the  frivolous yet terrifying demonic villain for not only the lead protagonist but the series overall. With his self-indulgent attitude, one simply can not help but love how truly charismatically sinister he is and how he plays off of the jujutsu sorcerers whether that be Gojo, Megumi or Itadori himself. Ryomen toys with Fushigoro like a pet owner playing with their cat as what then transpires is an utterly breathtaking fight scene thus far in the series. It’s one awe-inspiring bombastic animated scene after another. Sukuna nonchalantly in a snake’s mouth using his pure strength to violently whip and lash at Megumi’s bird shikigami. Or Fushigoro being pitched like a fastball and flung through buildings like a wrecking ball! Another great tidbit is that Ryomen is never truly in any danger and never worries about how intensely Fushigoro fights, only how much fun he can get out of it. It just goes to show how truly fearsome the king of curses is, the difference in power, speed & everything imaginable, and how much of a sight to behold it is.

As the mind blowing sequences come to a close as does Yuji Itadori. What takes place thereafter is heartbreaking as Yuji returns to his body and the two newfound friends share their final words. Although their time was brief, the connection Itadori, Fushigoro and Kugisaki forged in that short time comes through as the respect and love can be felt in each and every word. Then fittingly so, there’s nothing but rain. Also during the final minutes of the episode, four new characters are quickly introduced in Toge, Maki, Panda and Shoko. With the amount of screen time given, each seems unique, quirky and quite likable. There is, as the name implies, a talking panda and also a student who only speaks in the ingredients of rice balls. Enough said. That alone elevates this to near perfection. With Yuji’s “death” on Megumi and Nobara serving as new found inspiration and an impending tournament on the horizon though, things are starting to heat up once again.
