Review: Spitting Image (2020) Series 1 Episode 1
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Boris & Dom try to connect with humanity because clearly Dom is not from this planet while Boris tries to right his ways after contracting COVID and nearly dying. From parties to staying at home and doing nothing, Boris really tries his best to relate only to find out the true cost of doing so.
Harry & Meghan forge a new life in the US. Harry heads to the unemployment office in Los Angeles to get a real job that he can be proud of. After heading home from his Uber Eats run, Harry comes up with the idea to dress up as a costume and look like a jerk on Hollywood Boulevard where he can charge people for pictures. Harry quits that job and opts for unemployment like a real American.
Our Take
For American viewers, it took a bunch of “where the hell can I watch this?”, but Facebook was able to get in here and save the day, a phrase I’d never thought I’d say in a thousand years. The return episode of Spitting Image is swell with parody across both parties and numerous countries including UK, US, and even New Zealand. Greta Thunberg gives angry weather reports and Kevin Hart lives in The Rock’s breast pocket and is fed fish flakes in probably the most condescending rip on a celebrity I’ve heard all year long. You do require a bit of knowledge about the contemporary issues in both the political and celebrity spectrums, even if you don’t care about them. For me it’s Harry & Meghan, and I’ll never claim to be an expert on UK politics but it doesn’t look too far off than what we Americans deal with on a daily basis.
Spitting Image will win the victory as the most vicious attack on Donald Trump (and Joe Biden doesn’t get it nice either) that I’ve seen an animated series do save for maybe South Park. Everything is meant to hurt, which is how comedy is supposed to work. Featuring a who’s who of Futurama/The Simpsons writers and producers, Spitting Image could be the invasion we need right now.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
