English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants To Hang Out! “I Want To Hang out Together Over The Holiday”

Overview:

Over Golden Week, Uzaki comes to visit.

Our Take:

This continues to do what I asked next episode, and keeps the low shots to Sakurai’s character at a minimum. He still gets made fun of, but it’s more circumstantial than being low blows to parts of his lifestyle that are fine by most regard. At the same time, this is less an exploration into humorous moments as the first one is, minus the train scene, and more of a slice of life-type story.

During Golden Week, Sakurai has the week off, so he doesn’t have to go into work or school. He ends up just playing videogames, which is satisfying but not exactly what he had planned. This time, Uzaki’s interference is a good thing, as it actually ends up pulling him out of a semi-rut. He wasn’t having a bad time before, but it was pretty standard and nothing special. This time, he is actively having a fun time with Uzaki, where they play Pokemon Go for a while and end up visiting a glasses store. Even the glasses store visit was done because Uzaki suggested it after hearing how Sakurai is having a harder time playing Pokemon Go because he spent so much time gaming.

The glasses sequence is also pretty funny, considering how Sakurai ends up being roped into being a sunglasses model by Uzaki and Asai. He does cut an imposing figure, so he looks semi-intimidating in glasses. Seeing all the different pairs was really a lot of fun.

While the train shenanigans end up finishing the day on a sour note, Sakurai makes it up by inviting Uzaki to visit instead. This is a pretty fun segment, because they just have a good time hanging out. It’s devoid of teasing and a lot of Uzaki’s grift, and it just shows the two of them hanging out. During this segment, I could see why Sakurai and Uzaki are friends, that they’re not just doing a dynamic. At their best, they are comfortable around each other and have a lot of fun together. A rainy night just hanging out, gaming, and cooking with friends is a good time, and the montage shows their closeness.

I honestly like this side of Uzaki and Sakurai, it really shows their bond. The hijinks that come from this natural bond make sense, and is a good kind of humor. I only hope they keep it up.
