English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind “Diavolo Surfaces”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
As everyone’s bodies still remain switched in combination with reeling in from the unexpected death of Narancia, along with another unexpected death with Doppio dying in Bruno’s bullet-riddled body. Polnareff touches the Arrow, while Giorno and Guido must protect him from Chariot Requiem and if that’s not suspenseful enough, Guido also must replace his inexplicably broken revolver with a pistol he swiped from a Cop earlier.
After a short struggle, Chariot stops running after Polnareff and goes away with the Arrow, only for it to be revealed that Requiem had ulterior motives in mind that are along the lines of some Cronenburg-style body horror. Meanwhile, Diavolo has seen Chariot’s weakness. Time presses but Giorno suddenly tells everyone to be still: he’s checked Guido’s revolver and proves that it was sabotaged; from this revelation, he also deduces that Diavolo must be hiding within the body of someone within their and plans to touch each of them with Golden Wind to detect Diavolo’s soul.
But when Giorno checks on Bruno, Diavolo manifests from the same body as his daughter and attacks Giorno, injuring his arm. Diavolo then catches up to Chariot Requiem, using his time-skipping Stand Powers to evade all attacks. In a clever scene, Diavolo concludes an interesting analysis in regards to Chariot Requiem. And in response to this, He uses his Stand to finally disable it and take the Arrow. As the group tries to prevent Diavolo from taking the Arrow, (Especially a clever moment involving Giorno’s Stand Powers) The episode ends on an intense cliffhanger as Diavolo takes extreme measures to get the Stand Arrow within his grasp…
Our Take
This was an amazing episode which basically builds up the tension for the next ones. It seems like they are drawing out the final battle but hopefully, that means the next episodes could potentially top themselves in terms of quality. I just also realize the fact that since the “Freaky Friday” shit is still going on between Bruno’s Gang, that Doppio technically died in Bruno’s body which means that Bruno is also technically dead at this point too. His body’s been slowly decaying for half the season and now his soul has no living body to return to, just like Polnareff who’s still stuck in a turtle’s body.
While the last episode gave everyone a moment for Narancia’s Death, I also wished they had spent a little more time on Doppio’s death, because it got hardly any attention considering what a big part of the story he played. As the other-half of a big-time supervillain within Jojo’s Universe, you can’t help but feel sorry for the dopey bastard. In my mind, he was a good kid, who hung out with the wrong type of crowd. I believe if he didn’t have Diavolo as his second personality, he would probably still be married to his sweetheart and running some beachfront tourist shop by now and became a decent Dad to Trish.
As for Diavolo, He’s quite the evil tactical genius, and won’t even hesitate to kill his daughter for power. And the way he’s able to carry out his evil plans without having an individual body was impressive.
With only 3 episodes left, I can’t wait to see what batshit insane things will happen next!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
