English Dub Review: Black Clover “Those Who Have Been Gathered”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Mereoleona kidnaps Asta, Noelle, and Secre/Nero to her home, the Vermillion House, for a party along with Mimosa, Kirsch, and Fuegoleon, to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Sister Theresa Rapaul becoming a Nun, where learning experiences and Hijinx ensues…


Our Take

Despite the ongoing flow of filler episodes, this show is consistently infamous for (Amongst other annoying Shonen-Anime trope-heavy things), this episode at least remains entertaining. There were some comedic moments but much of the focus was on a branch of Noelle’s family who thankfully isn’t terrible to her, along with a small revelation that gave Noelle one hell of a confidence boost.

Without spoiling too much, we must all remember that nobody is an expert overnight. It takes dedication, practice, and proper comprehension of ourselves to be proficient in a particular craft or field to get to where they are at the top. Noelle learns something about her long-dead mother and is also given a moment of introspection as it took her a long time to get to where she is now and has progressed even higher than even her own family expected her to. Noelle’s character development is arguably one of the best parts of this show, It’s a shame it constantly overshadowed by her repressed feelings for a Dopey Idiot like Asta. But then again, most of the male characters are too oblivious to see potential romance when it’s in front of them because the goddamn plot says so!

Minor character gripes aside, this was quite entertaining. I had a lot of laughter. At the same time, it was very interesting to see and hear more about Fuegoleons and Mereoleona’s past.

Let’s hope they get to the real plot soon, I can actually see the fans developing filler-fatigue at this point…
