English Dub Review: Black Clover “The Lion Awakens, Continued”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The Wizard King informs the people who passed the test that the dungeon contains a powerful magic item that Asta, Noelle, Magna, Luck, Secre, Leo, and Randall must recover. So in preparation, they enter first while the rest recover their magic. But when the dungeon splits into three paths, their challenge is far from over…


Our Take

This was the first episode to pick things back up within the series after the 2-month COVID quarantine that delayed things a bit for everyone. While this still comes across as filler, I do like that it actually gives other characters outside of Asta a proper spotlight such as Leo. 

If I have any major complaints, I heavily wish this will they?/won’t they? romance bullshit between Noelle & Asta gets fucking resolved already, are there people who actually enjoy these over-done interactions? It seems to have no place in the narrative and doesn’t contribute anything other than making Noelle a hateful bitch and progressively diminishes any sympathy we have for a character who actually deserves it. Also, What about having more knowledge/lore about the dark triad or the Devil Species within the Black Clover universe? (including the other races). I don’t know if they’ll touch upon this later on but learning this unraveling mystery would’ve made things compelling if the anime explored these topics as this info is essential to establishing Asta’s innocence in court.

Hopefully, things will pick up in the next episode. DBZ had less filler than this!
