This Week In Viral 6/5/2020: “The Simpsons”

The 700th episode of The Simpsons is called “Senior Moment” written by J. Stewart Burns. No additional announcements have been made about the episode other than the fact that the episode will air as part of the show’s 32nd season which is set to premiere Fall 2020 only on FOX.

In related news, bot accounts on Twitter were trying to kick of the virility of an illustration inspired by The Simpsons that appeared to show Chief Wiggum having his leg on the neck of a citizen much in the same way George Floyd was murdered at the hands of four Minneapolis-area police officers. The image initially gave ire to the constant fore-warnings that most recently included COVID-19, murder hornets, and this clip below from the episode “The Trouble with Trillions” where all of Springfield is set in a panic when the New Year’s ball gets stuck thereby causing the town to wonder, “will this year ever end?”, a sentiment that has already been felt throughout a social circles as a result of protests, pandemics, and dogs and cats living together.

The Simpsons are probably the most fan-illustrated animated series on the internet with contributions that come from all over the world. Whether it’s celebrities, depictions of older characters, or super-cute Playboy models, The Simpsons is an instantly recognizable construct that has certainly transcended the concept of an original animated TV series into something that is more of a fabric of everyday society.
