Kevin Smith Continues Campaign To Bring Back Clerks: The Animated Series
With #BlackLivesMatter, climate protests, and anti-COVID-19 demonstrations dot the country, bringing back Clerks: The Animated Series probably isn’t at the forefront of anyone’s minds when it comes to passionate campaigns. But, that hasn’t stopped the likes of Kevin Smith and the producers of Clerks: The Animated Series from trying.
In a new article on Consequences of Sound, Kevin Smith says that wheels are in motion and that ‘the time is right’ for the return of Clerks: The Animated Series. Unfortunately, the rights to the show are owned by Disney, which leaves the likes of FX Networks, Hulu, and the like as his options given that the adult animated series wouldn’t be suited for say Disney+. Here’s what Kevin said in the interview:
Work’s stopping, so it’s going to affect everybody down the road when they’re looking for new entertainment. So, there’s a world where this is an easy trigger to pull. It’s not like, “Oh, we gotta cast this fucking thing. What’s it look like?” Literally, you could watch six episodes and be like, “Would you like to do this?” The pitch is almost unnecessary. It’s like, “Watch this and decide if you’d like to do this again because we could do this very inexpensively right now.” And 10 episodes of the show could come out next year.
By work stopping, Kevin is talking about live-action productions for TV and films being shut-down right now whilst animation is going strong. In fact, he’s got a Masters of the Universe series in production which is expected to hit sometime next year for Netflix. Kevin also notes in the interview that animation production companies are getting calls left and right for commercials, TV shows, films, and whatever else in an attempt to get a strong pipeline in play for the next year or so until COVID-19 production struggles subside. A lot of animated franchises could return if this is the case.
Perhaps, Clerks: The Animated Series, can be one of them.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
