English Dub Review: Sorcerous Stabber Orphen “The Uoar Class”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
While staying at Leticia’s house, Orphen is attacked by a Stabber. He successfully fends the assassin off, but he almost doesn’t survive the assault by Claiomh’s cooking. Since Majic wants to enroll in the Tower of Fangs school, Leticia and Orphen take him there, but they run into trouble along the way.
Their carriage is ambushed and they find themselves surrounded by members of the Dragon Faith. Orphen takes care of them all without fatalities, but then a strange man called Hydrant comes up who was apparently injured by Orphen previously. He holds a grudge, and now he’s a member of the upper echelon, so Orphen and company are in serious danger. Hydrant fakes a report of the assault to show that Leticia and Orphen killed all of the Dragon Faith members.
Our Take:
In the eleventh episode of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, Leticia learns that Orphen is a lot of trouble to deal with. I mean, she already knew that before, but she’s more sure of it than ever after the events of The Uoar Class. “Why do so many people want to kill you? Seriously, what did you do?” asks Claoimh at one point. Orphen may be a powerful sorcerer, but his enemies are putting himself and his friends in danger, and that’s something he doesn’t take lightly.
The first half of the episode is mainly dedicated to fun hijinks like Claiomh trying to feed Orphen her unique recipes, the two suspicious short people selling Mister Tower merch, and Majic getting kicked in the face because he was reading a book that vaguely resembled Claoimh’s diary. All these scenes worked pretty well in terms of lighthearted comedy for me, and it was nice to see more personality and humor and less weird magical mumbling spells.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a sorcerer show without some spells, so eventually it does happen. Orphen takes out all of the Dragon Faith followers on his own, which causes Leticia to chew him out, which was cute. I definitely like the vibe they have going on. Hydrant I don’t care so much for, but at least he seems to have an interesting history with Orphen and the Childman class.
The English dub for this episode was very solid. I particularly enjoy Leticia and Claoimh’s voices, as they’re spot on for how I’d imagine them. The translation choices were great, too, especially in the earlier scenes when the dialogue is more slice of life and natural sounding.
The Uoar Class finds Orphen pitted against powerful enemies that threaten not only his life but his friend’s as well. It’s an episode that has some nice humorous moments along with darker threads of what’s to come. Orphen may not be looking forward to meeting up with Hydrant again, but I’m curious what his end game looks like.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
