Lion Forge Animation Teams Up With Starlight Media
Lion Forge Animation, the animation company that shares a parent company with the comics studio of the same name, has struck a deal with China’s Starlight Media. Under the deal, Starlight is investing in Lion Forge to help spur the studio into producing original content inspired various properties. The more fascinating take on the deal is that not only will this allow Lion Forge comics to show up in China, but Lion Forge wants to potentially kick up new IP inspired by local Chinese fare.
One such project that is going into production this month is a new animated short that has to do with COVID-19, the other, an animated adaptation of Journey to the West, a 16th-century Chinese classic. Other opportunities could include dubbing in English original Chinese productions.
Our Take
Chinese produced animation is continuing to make in-roads in English-speaking countries. Netflix, GKIDS, and even Funimation are looking beyond Japan for foreign-born animated tales that could help take a slice out of Japan’s dominance in the anime space. More as it develops.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
