The Best Benefit Concerts/Charity Songs in the History of Animation

Chef Aid (South Park)

In the early years of South Park, Chef was often the voice of reason in that quiet, little redneck, mountain town. But in the second season episode, “Chef Aid” the soulful cook finds himself locked up. By using the controversial “Chewbacca Defense,” Johnny Cochran successfully sues Chef, forcing him to pay Alanis Morissette a lot of money for using a song that she stole from him!

But the boys aren’t having it. All they need to do is raise enough money to hire Cochran to use the Chewbacca Defense—this time in Chef’s favor—to force Alanis to pay Chef for usage of the song she initially stole from him. Yeah, early South Park was a little offbeat.

Stan, Kyle, Eric, and Kenny set up a benefit concert overnight—appropriately named, Chef Aid—and are able to find numerous famous musicians whose lives were touched by Chef in the past. The acts include: Rancid, The Clash’s Joe Strummer, Ozzy Osbourne, Ween, Primus, Elton John, Meat Loaf, Rick James, DMX, and Devo.

Unlike most South Park episodes where all celebrity voices are impersonated… poorly, these cameos are the real deal. The concert even spawned an IRL tribute album, available wherever CDs and cassettes are sold (in 1998).
