Six Animated Films to Watch While Quarantined
The Hedgehog in the Fog (Russia)
This endearing yet eerie short film about a little hedgehog traversing the woods to go see his bear cub friend has become one of the most beloved relics of Soviet cinema. Like all filmmakers who worked under Russia’s former Communist regime, director Yuri Norstein was faced with the daunting task of creating a work of art that was both authentic and simultaneously compliant with his government’s strict ideological guidelines. The result, the way he put it once, was a film about the power of imagination, and the terror it can produce if left to wander. Recycling some of the silhouette animation used in then nearly fifty-year-old German feature The Tales of Prince Achmed and anticipating the paper-cut out techniques that would later be popularized by the American adult-oriented sitcom South Park, Norstein’s film remains one of the most unique visions in the history of its medium.
Hedgehog is available on YouTube.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
