English Dub Review: Black Clover “Nero Reminiscences… Part One”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

As the Black Bulls leave the kingdom to begin investigating the mystery of the existence of the demon/devil species in an effort to clear Asta’s name, We delve further into Secre’s memories since the title itself implies that this also serves as a “Recap” episode of sorts with the way Secre’s flashbacks play out…

Our Take

The obligatory filler/recap episodes have started once again and can’t blame them for it since the anime’s almost caught up with the manga. Granted, I was looking forward to seeing the next storyline. Now I’m not saying I like them, but as far as bad filler episodes go, recap episodes are the least terrible because you can easily skip over the parts and plot-details you already know.

It’s also a damn shame as I was really hoping we would maybe get some original flashback footage stuff to go along with it. If they’re going to go through the effort to make two whole filler episodes focused on Secre, then they could at least show us something new we didn’t already know. I really don’t see the point in recapping something that we just learned five episodes ago.

Aside from a decent new opening, this was 100% recap of stuff we’ve only recently already seen again, so unless you’re unaware of the shit that went down in previous episodes during the Elf-Arc of who the real culprit was, this is pretty disappointing and it’s only part 1. It’s easy to assume that the next episode is probably also only going to be another recap? Hopefully, we can get some narration telling us things through Secre’s perspective.
