The classic relationship between Mr Burns and Homer is that Mr Burns can never remember the name of his most incompetent employee, culminating in Homer going crazy and attacking Burns.
One fan theory suggests that Mr Burns does in-fact know who Homer is, but deliberately pretends so that Homer will never progress and realise his dreams.
