The Video Games Most In Need Of Getting An Animated Series Adaptation

Gex

There was a definitely a time during video games’ history where it seemed like every console was trying to develop the hot new platformer, complete with some quirky mascot that could potentially dethrone Mario or Sonic as the patron saint of video games. Gex first came forward on the 3DO, but it found a healthy life full of sequels and ports for other consoles that centered around a television-addicted gecko who always has a quip at the ready. The Gex games featured lush environments, but the titles’ main inspiration was their capacity for parodying pop culture and other genres of TV, film, and video games. This allows the Gex series to be much more modern and meta than its platformer compatriots and this sense of humor would work so well in an animated series. Each episode of a Gex series could send the wisecracking gecko into a new world that’s a different genre mashup. Since Gex has so much to do with satire and structure, Dean Lorey and his team behind the new tongue-in-cheek Harley Quinn animated series would knock this out of the park. They’ve brilliantly been able to deconstruct superhero conventions and that level of self-awareness is exactly what Gex needs to succeed. Hell, even bring back Dana Gould as the voice of Gex and get him on the show’s writing staff, too! Never before has the world been closer to tail time.
