AHL Team To Do One-Night-Only Makeover Inspired By “The Simpsons”

The Simpsons don’t have any new episodes premiering until next year, but arguably the franchise was the most talked about in 2019. And while we regale in an ongoing FXX super-marathon, the longest-running animated comedy in primetime is celebrating its 30th anniversary in other ways. The AHL’s Springfield T-Birds will, for one day in February, rename their hockey team the “Springfield Ice-O-Topes inspired by the team name made popular by The Simpsons which has typically been used for whenever the show features their sports teams.

The evening will be called The What If? Night and will go down Feb 1st with these jerseys being donned. The team name will actually last the whole week and you can order the new jerseys here.

The longest-running primetime scripted show in television history, THE SIMPSONS exploded into popular culture in 1990 and has remained one of the most groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises, recognizable throughout the world. HOMER (Dan Castellaneta), MARGE (Julie Kavner), BART (Nancy Cartwright), LISA (Yeardley Smith) and MAGGIE are instantly identifiable television icons. Rounding out this cast of characters are many beloved Springfield residents, including tavern proprietor MOE SZYSLAK (Hank Azaria) and nuclear power plant owner MR. BURNS (Harry Shearer).

THE SIMPSONS is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean are the executive producers. The Gracie Films Worldwide Brand Division develops and produces the licensed content for the series.
