SYFY Schedules “TZGZ” Shorts Series In An Effort To Spur Adult Animation

SYFY miserably failed at launching an original adult animated series earlier this year called Alien News Deska show that featured a strong cast, but poor writing and humor offered little to hang its hat on. I’m not sure how much it’s going to get better as the network continually posts about how they want to expand on the adult animation “genre” instead of recognizing the industry that is adult animation.

In any event, the network that probably promotes more programming from other networks instead of it’s own has announced that they are bringing back a fresh take on their TZGZ Saturday Night block of adult animation. Following reruns of Futurama, the block will be a couple of hours long showcase featuring linear installations of programming that you can already get on VRV/Mondo including Gary and his Demons, Brogan: Master of Castles, and more. Moreover, a new shorts series called TZGZ will be on hand that will feature animated shorts like High Wizard and whatever else they find in sort of an incubation factor to see if there’s anything worth greenlighting. With the show airing opposite Adult Swim’s own original offerings of animation in the form of Toonami, it will be interesting to see if the block of programming will be anything more than what’s being presented or if this will be another failed effort from a network that probably doesn’t understand the industry just yet.
