Review: Momma Named Me Sheriff “Smelly Glenn ; Stuck”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Smelly Glenn
Smelly Glenn is the name of a third-grade kid who ate some weird ass sandwich causing him to smell for the day. As a result, Glenn had been branded “Smelly”, and had to live the rest of his life either as an orphan or a resident of a whale’s butthole. When he grows up, Smelly Glenn visits his alma mater Old Town School just as Sheriff is leaving an anti-bullying seminar. Having felt bad for making fun of Glenn years ago, Sheriff opts to reunite with Glenn along with BoJangles and Carl to bring back some memories of all the good times that were had in the third grade which included fireworks, Carl’s loogie trick, and some good ol’ fashioned four square. Before they can do that last part, their old teacher, the rightful owner of the aforementioned sandwich, tries to kill them all, but maybe dies in the process. Sheriff learns that maybe an apology would’ve worked better.
Stuck
Sheriff sets up Goodman on a phony call that leads to the duo being trapped in their cruiser with a trained raccoon outside of the car keeping them from solving any actual crimes. The idea is for Goodman to open up to Sheriff which comes with two perks: 1) Goodman makes a new friend 2) it gets him a promotion to officially being a deputy. When the duo leaves the ‘crime scene’, THE GUYS ARE ABDUCTED BY ALIENS!
Our Take
Alright, alright, alright. I will totally absolve Mr. Pickles not in this show anymore if it means Sheriff and Deputy are now being probed by aliens and we get to see how that plays out. Until then, “Smelly Glenn” was a bit more attuned to the type of show I like from Dave Stewart and Will Carsola. “Stuck” is the equivalent to Archer’s “Vision Quest” episode in that you hope all of the gags as part of a constant setting work and for the most part they do. But, the premise handcuffs the producers in the type of things they do best which are all on exhibit in the brilliant “Smelly Glenn” episode.
Yes, “Smelly Glenn” was brilliant. Showing the obvious horror movie influences that have served Mr. Pickles well for so many seasons are all over the place, exquisitely directed by the great Mark Brooks of all people. Featuring a hilarious premise, and a quick reunion of notable residents derived from Old Town (“Carl killed me this entire episode”). I still haven’t seen Momma Named Me Sheriff take the same sort of chances that Mr. Pickles Season Three did, but I’m hoping that alien abduction is a sign of things to come. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to find a whale’s butthole to call home in hopes of striking it rich.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
