English Dub Review: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even In Another World “High School Prodigies Have Arrived In Another World!”

Overview

Seven high school prodigies crash land in a fantasy world that may or may not need saving.

Our Take

This is an incredibly efficient first episode, even by isekai show standards, where they want to frontload as much expository information and lore as possible to get right to the action. Perhaps one would appreciate a show like this that respects their time, but I think that efficiency might end up working against it. A first episode should try to leave a good impression by establishing characters, and this one doesn’t really do that.

The introduction to our seven high school prodigies is very fast. All we get is what they’re perfect at and how perfect they are at it. We don’t get any information about who they actually are.

And then we’re just tossed into our fantasy world, Freyjagard. No explanation at all. They were all on a plane and now the plane is in another world. There’s usually some sort of reason why people get whisked away to another world, even if it’s really dumb, but here there’s nothing. My guess is that that may end up being a mystery to be solved, and I hope that’s the case.

Among the protagonists, Tsukasa is clearly the primary protagonist, as he is the first to awaken. Immediately after awakening, he is too weak to even chew his food and has to be fed pre-chewed food mouth-to-mouth by a large-breasted elf girl named Lyrule. This sounds like some standard fantasy world shenanigans. However, the way she fed him was way too erotic, so I can only interpret this as her applying for the position of one of Tsukasa’s love interests.

After that, we get very brief introductions to two of the races in Freyjagard. There are the dog-people and the human-people. The effort to establish races might indicate that racial conflict may become an aspect of this show. Further, Lyrule’s race was not mentioned even though she is clearly some sort of elf. Perhaps this will be another mysterious plot point.

A month passes by and apparently, this group of apex teenagers has spent all that time doing basically nothing for no reason other than just acclimating. A convenient prophecy reveals that a long time ago seven heroes came from another world to save Freyjagard and that it might happen again. This world doesn’t seem like it needs saving, though I have full confidence that will change.

The episode ends with them already establishing a couple of hard objectives. And as expected of a group of perfect prodigies, they get off to a productive start. A small conflict erupts, and most of them are able to show off their abilities. This seems really redundant, as we already had the introduction sequence at the beginning to explain what they’re good at. The little skirmish at the end seemed like the prime opportunity to actually establish some character traits, and all we get is a predictable flawless victory.

Since all of the main characters are perfect human beings, their success is without question. The real question is how many fools with they have to stomp along the way? And how many of the female characters will fall in love with Tsukasa?
