English Dub Review: Astra Lost in Space “Meteor”
The Mystery Begins!
As the Astra Crew travels to the next resupplying stop known as “Shummoor”, Kanata secretly (in response to the last episode’s twist that there could be a traitor amongst them who sabotaged the ship’s communications) tries to figure out who the saboteur is, but doesn’t know enough about everybody to make a determination. It also leads to a scene when When Funicia recounts how a mysterious man in sunglasses arranged for her adoption into Quitterie’s family which were events that were briefly touched upon in the last episode but now with added details that now make the proceedings feel a little too coincidental.
As Kanata theorizes that somebody wants them all killed due to an off the cuff remark the “sunglasses guy” mentions about the crew of “B5” Kanata under Zack’s advisement comes clean to everyone within the crew about the possible saboteur hiding amongst them. During the course of this scene, more details are revealed about other characters such as a silent douche named “Ulgar” being the son of their school’s vice-principal, which puts the most suspicion on him. However, just when everyone’s calmed down during a moment of comedic levity involving Aries that helps break the tension, the ship is suddenly struck by what can only be described as meteor pebbles, breaching the hull and disabling the main power supply.
Even without power, the Astra ship ends up being caught in Shummoor’s gravity and begins plummeting in an uncontrolled descent. As the group moves frantically to seal the holes with a glue gun and connect the ship’s gravity controller to a backup generator found by Aries, the gravity controller’s safety mechanism finally kicks in when it detects a small flying alien creature, forcing Ulgar to shoot it with a glue gun. With power restored, Zack is barely able to land the Astra safely. But the episode ends with a big reveal about what’s inside the suitcase that Ulgar has secretly been keeping to himself.
Our Take
While they haven’t yet explored this new planet until possibly the next episode, it’s clear this was to set the tone for the rest of the series ongoing new mystery as to who and why people want the crew dead and who was the one who tampered with their method of communications in the first place. The suspense, tension, and drama ran high for this episode, and despite their intense situations & character moments, this clearly it isn’t going to be that easy to make it back home safely.
And the key for the main cast aside from survival is now also figuring out this mystery before they get back. If they don’t know who’s secretly out to kill them, what’s to say they could easily walk into a death trap when they go home?
Only time will tell since they’ve now landed on a new planet with much to explore and stock up for their long journey.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
