English Dub Review: How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? “Why Don’t You Have Some Protein?”

Swimming is an exercise too!

Overview:

The two girls decide to exercise elsewhere.

Our Take:

I’m having a good time with this show! It’s cute, and I like seeing these girls trying out alternatives to going to the gym, and continuously encouraging each other. Slice of life that’s fun!

Most of all, it’s giving me the motivation to exercise. As I was watching it, I broke out my dumbbells and tried to do some basic exercises myself (I really need to build up some muscle mass). If these girls can get themselves into shape, then so can I. Any motivation to exercise is a good one, and I will gladly take it.

It’s also very informative– while I’m not sure about the validity of ‘general warm-ups can do more harm than good’, since scientific studies do need to be verified by their peers and aren’t always a tell-all in a vacuum, that they do present alternative warm-ups to do instead gives us information instead of just ‘thing bad’. Now I have some knowledge to do things on my own instead of what I was doing before, which can help my exercise. It’s a comedy and it does poke fun at its characters, but it also imparts a lot of very helpful to the audience for them to absorb.

That they also make a point of saying how the ‘quick fix body programs’ can do more harm than good and explaining the details of this both in the short and long term is something that’s necessary, especially considering how many products and regimens exist pushing just that. Everyone wants to be thinner or more muscular, but not wanting to put in the time is a trap many people fall into. That hard, consistent work is what will truly yield results, in the end, isn’t something that many people want to hear, but that is the reality of the situation.

You can tell that the author of this, if it was a manga, really knew what they were talking about. The differentiation in muscle between athletes is something that makes sense if you think about it, but might not be something to initially touch upon. The details of exercises, especially those used in specific sports, might be something that’s uncovered through research, but wouldn’t be something that’s uncovered just by clicking the first result in a search engine. You can tell that this is the author’s passion, and I’m here for it.
