Netflix Announces Live-Action “Cowboy Bebop” & “Q-Force” Animated Comedy Series

Two for Thursday! That’s a thing, right?

Netflix is staying busy with pickups and have announced two new ones that we’re gonna keep our eyes on. The first one is a new adult animated comedy series from Mike Schur (The Good Place), Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) , and written by Gabe Liedman (Pen15).

The new series is called Q-Force and will follow a band of spies going on all sorts of LGBTQ adventures both for professional and personal reasons. Ten episodes are headed to Netflix, we just don’t know when yet.

In more tricky news, a new live-action Cowboy Bebop TV series is on the way and it will star John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Danielle Pineda, and Alex Hassell in the principle roles.

  • John Cho will be “Spike”, haunted by visions of the woman he loved and lost, Julia, Spike’s criminal past slowly catches up to him — putting him and the Bebop crew in the crosshairs of the solar system’s most lethal criminal organization, the Syndicate.
  • Mustafa Shakir (who was excellent in Luke Cage) , will play the role of “Jet”. Jet holds tight to his honor and optimism, acting as a father figure to his misfit crew, always seeing the best in his partner, Spike… until it’s too late.
  • Danielle Pineda will be “Faye”. She’s always on the search for the person with the key to her identity. In the meantime, she’ll fake it till she makes it.
  • Alex Hassell will be “Vicious”. Once he was Spike’s best friend, now he’s his mortal enemy and is obsessed with taking him down.

Not known yet will be who is going to play the roles of Ed and Ein.

In any event, like the legendary anime, Cowboy Bebop will follow a legion of bounty hunters trying to distance themselves from their pasts all the while attempting to apprehend suspects for financial gain. More or less a Japanese take on Guardians of the Galaxy. The TV series has not been announced for a premiere date as of yet, but is a Netflix co-production with Tomorrow Studios.
