OUR TAKE

This is about the third or fourth recap episode I’ve had to cover and the second I’ve cover this month, and both of them were the tenth episode of their respective series. Unfortunately, unlike Radiant using recaps as horribly transparent padding for a weak filler story, this is just your more typical recap episode faire that is re-editing previous installments just in case you somehow forgot what happened the previous week. Specifically, it pulls from Episodes 2, 3, 7, 9, and 10, but apparently from the perspective of Cow Girl recounting Goblin Slayer’s adventures this season as he’s said them to her, as well as making sure to hold your attention for at least the first few minutes by showing you her bra-clad jubblies as soon as possible. So, once you’re 5-8 minutes in and zipping up your pants, you’re already too far in the episode to quit now.

I guess I’m just…confused? Goblin Slayer (the show) seemed to be doing so well for the past ten episodes, so the need for a recap this close to the end is kinda baffling. I mean, sure, the animation wasn’t always top notch (you can look at GS’s constant shifts into full body CGI if you need examples of that), but it never seemed to get so bad that they needed to delay an episode. And once we get to the final two, it’s clear they were doing just fine. So this is just a little bump in a pretty much solid season that everyone just wanted to take a break. And I suppose I can’t exactly fault them for that, it’s just now I have to come up with just enough to say about them putting out nothing new this week.

The best I could say about this is probably that this is the first time a recap episode hasn’t signaled giant red warning lights as to a show’s production behind the scenes, which is probably at least close to the faintest praise you could damn anything with. And yet I still have no idea why this happened, meaning something must have been bad enough for them to stop the broadcast schedule and make this recap, followed by Funimation deeming it necessary to dub and release in lieu of the actual next episode, which they probably already have done by now anyway. Honestly, just give me the last two episodes so I can begin building hype for next season already.
