Review: Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest “Descent of the Shadow” ; “The Last Avenger”

Bask in the shadows.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

“Descent of the Shadow”

The Avengers ASSEMBLE!!! and make quick work of Killmonger and the Shadow Council before they can get the Wakandan crown. You know who DOES get it? Fucking Baron Zemo! Yep, the longtime villain finally shows his true colors and makes one with the crown that causes the former soldier to go berserk. We come to find out that the crown goes nuts when outside of Wakanda and as such Zemo can’t even deal with it. The crown’s other weakness? Vibranium…and we know TWO heroes that use vibranium on a daily basis and they use it to their advantage and get the crown. Black Panther and Cap grab the crown and dart just as Madame Masque and Killmonger end Zemo for good. But when Cap gets killed from the crown’s power, the Avengers begin pointing fingers at a culprit…Black Panther.

“The Last Avenger”

The last Avenger, is Black Panther. Why? Well, ever since Cap died the Avengers are PISSED and do everything that they can to stop both the King and Shuri before they reach Wakanda with the crown. Despite a gauntlet of battles, the decision is a draw due to the fact that Panther is able to get the crown back safely to Wakanda which has officially closed its borders from the rest of the world.

Our Take

It takes all the way to the midseason finale for the producers to show some ambition and it pays off. All of the fight scenes with Black Panther and the Avengers were very well done, and the scene where Cap does was some of the most beautifully directed scenes this franchise has ever done. Add in the fact we get the excellent two-part plot that leaves us wanting more coupled with Zemo’s turn earlier on in the episode, and I gotta say, a few more like this, and I’m gonna start liking this show. Assassinations of character aside, the big guns were pulled for the two-parter and I’m hoping more like this is on the way.
