Review: Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest “Shadow of Atlantis”
It looks like we know who is casting that shadow.
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Tiger Shark threatens Manhattan and takes with him a massive army to invade despite Attuma signing a peace accord with T’challa and the residents of Wakanda. Turns out, they are after some sort of golden crest that was being held at the Wakandan embassy in NYC, for what reason, we aren’t told just yet. Fortunately, Black Panther and the rest of the Avengers are able to put up a fight long enough for Attuma to show up and take back his one-time cohort.
Our Take
Despite the fact that a lot of the plot elements to kick off the Black Panther’s Quest take are clearly a back door to a Namor the Sub-Mariner visit (at least I hope so given that we just met up with two of his biggest villains), we get a fun hour of action-packed superhero goodness that should leave fans satisfied. James Mathis III is as good of a Black Panther voice as you’re gonna find, and quite frankly, I’m just happy we’re not getting any cheap imitations of the MCU movie heroes as we do with Guardians of the Galaxy or even this franchise’s Iron Man.
As mentioned earlier, I would’ve liked to have seen a few more Black Panther villains to kick off a Black Panther centered series, but I guess if Marvel is trying to begin its attempt at bringing to light a rather not very famous character (especially whence compared to DC Comics’ similar Aquaman who has a lot of the same traits as Marvel’s Namor), I’m not sure why we did it under the guise of a character that just found renewed fame of his own just this year.
In any event, “Shadow of Atlantis” is a fun start to hopefully a worthwhile adventure for Disney XD which sorely needs a Marvel hit. Yes, it’s not certainly devoid of the cheese factor that other Marvel-Disney series have, like when Black Panther rides a flying Iron Man like he’s the Green Goblin, but it’s probably a better start than most Marvel series have gotten.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
