Review: Animals “Episode Twenty-Four: Horses.”

Quit horsin’ around!

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode of Animals sees us in Horseburg where a horse by the name of Julia is set to marry Mike. But, trouble ensues when Julia meets Phil, a lowly carriage horse, and soon finds herself in the midst of a love triangle that her father certainly doesn’t approve of. Eventually, Mike and Phil’s rivalry comes to a head at Mike and Julia’s wedding after Phil’s sister is launched by a catapult. Phil shows up at the wedding, announces his love for Julia, only for the two to break up days later. In a chance reunion years later, Phil and Mike run into each other and actually become friends over their commonality in striking out with the bride.

Our Take

In terms of premises, this week’s episode is rather ordinary in its approach. However, we did get some impressive casting choices in the form of Michael Sheen voicing the roles of twin brothers and, probably the best performance of the night, Tim Meadows taking on the role of a local drunken patron. That said, with the plot being atypical and the dialogue being drenched in my boredom tears, “Horses” ends up being a disappointment in its execution. I will say I had a few chuckles during the live-action portions of the episode, Demi Moore returns to watch Mike and Phil eat dinosaur chicken nuggets in which we are then introduced to a CG character that tries to convince Mike to murder Phil in a humorous fashion.

All in all, the “Horses” bit just didn’t do anything for me this time around which makes me think that these animals should maybe have been put down after the events of Green Day. But, the live action portions of the episode kept me entertained enough to warrant a passing grade.
