English Dub Review: Chio’s School Road “Bloody Butterfly Effect”

The Trolling Force is strong in this one.

Overview (Spoilers below)

We start the trip to school after a gaming night, again, produced by a rat-kid’s troll provocation for being trounced in a match. Chio entered a random encounter with a delinquent and, in an attempt to avoid it, our little munchkin burned herself with the social trash’s PINK motorbike exhaust pipe (and as someone who has been burnt like that multiple times when I was a kid, I can testify how much it hurts) followed by a ridiculously hilarious chain of events that ended up not only with Chio BSing her way out of trouble with the gangster wannabe, but also making him repent of his trashy ways and taking her to school.

The second section of the episode we meet Manana, Chio’s best friend and a total snake in sheep’s clothing. She is the kind of people that you know is a horrible person but they show you their evil side upfront and, in spite to that, you ended up friends with them due to their questionable sincerity.

The final act was centered on Hosokawa being her ringo of life persona and showing us her running addiction. Manana’s schemes are hilarious, and the trolling she and Chio inflicted upon each other made me roll in laughter while I remembered similar situations between me and my pals back in college.

Our Take

As I always state when evaluating comedy, this is a subjective genre and thus is difficult to rate under any standard. For me, it was a ride full of hilarity and incredulity filled with ridiculous moments, despite the occasional too in the nose jab that it fell into, which resulted in an enjoyable experience. I also admit that the Hinamatsuri vibes I get from it are quite strong. I also think that dub is amazing. The voice acting enforces the hilarity of the situation, especially for Chio and Manana. Chio definitively is the best Girl, but the world needs to know that Manana Did Nothing Wrong.
