I just got back from San Diego Comic-Con, and as we’ve been posting up all of our recaps from various panels, I dreaded when having to write this. Jon Schnepp, famed director of the legendary Metalocalypse who would also have credits in such fare as Aqua Teen, Black Panther, and a slew of others has passed away at the age of 51 after complications from surgery needed after a stroke.

After years of trading silly Twitter and Facebook barbs with Jon, I had the pleasure of meeting him at Titmouse a few years back and, of course, have run into him at Comic-Cons over the year, most recently when he was working on Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? and he was always a nice guy. First time I met him, he was as big a ball of energy as I’ve met. As you go through the hallways of Titmouse, everyone’s doing a great job working quietly but when I met Jon he was like BAM!! He’d tell you whatever he was working on and then some. He’d send the occasional email or Tweet for a plug for which we were happy to do, and I’ll always remember the note we got from him when we were part of the Metalocalypse rally outside Hulu, just saying “thanks” and how happy he was to see that the fandom for the series was still strong years after the show’s cancel.

I never had a chance to meet his fiance, Holly, but on behalf of Bubbleblabber, we wanted to send our sincerest condolences as we can’t imagine what she’s going through. Jon will be missed. Please donate to help offset the healthcare bills.
