English Dub Review: Island “I Don’t Want You to Feel Bad”
Know your history or you be doomed to repeat it!
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS BELOW)
Thia week’s episode kicks off with Rinne heavily hinting that she is a vampire and wants a manly company to rule the night. Or maybe she was explaining, again, about the Soot Blight Syndrome that she has been afflicted to?
Setsuna is evolving his maid butler powers so he can be the best manwhore manservant like no one ever was. This is the reason he “time travel” after all, the future depends on it! Sara explains to the MC the legends of the island and how both the SBS and the insolation came to be. She also was faux passing carnal services as well, but his Virgin Shield was too powerful to let her attends end with his prison sentence.
Meanwhile, Karen decides to apply for the maid job Rinne was offering to save money during summer vacations and raise some funds for her eventual escape. After the standard tsundere-pervert shenanigans, we learn that her reasons for leaving is to chase after her absent mother. Oh yeah, it seems that Rinne is not as sick as she had led us to believe, not in the physical aspect at least.
OUR TAKE
This episode had me watching the clock to see when it would end. I found it kind of messy and boring in the sense that there was too much exposition in lieu of world building. The characters interactions, baring few moments, were too generic and it made it hard to get into the narrative. Aesthetic wise, the animation looked polished and well-drawn even though it was weird in some places, especially the backgrounds and certain details.
Something that bugged me, and I found odd putting the dub voices for the girls. Is it just me or they sound way too older than they are? I would like to say that this was intentional as a way of softening the blow of a grown man interacting with underage girls, but I would not put my hopes on that one. This episode tried to establish a solid foundation for its plot while foreshadowing how things are more likely to end. Would they be able to deliver? Doubtful, but let’s see them try.
Finally, Rinne’s delusions regarding her long waited Dark Prince is as worrisome as it can be normal for a minor her age. My problem is that everyone else, the MC especially, seen to take her way too seriously, instead of spanking some sense into the girl. Also, is it just me or the MC is having too much fun trolling Karen while Sara is enjoying her trolling on him?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
