Review: Gary And His Demons “Gary Goes Back To School”

Cue Deftones.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On this week’s episode, Gary has to use a serum to infiltrate a high school undercover so that he can discover a new demon-laced drug making its way across the student body. It isn’t long before Gary discovers the joys of being young again, but effects of the drug mess with his serum and he’s got to fight his way back to the HQ so as to finish the case.

Our Take

We’ve seen this premise a lot before, Family Guy has done it a few times as has Rick and Morty, but there were still a lot of funny moments to be had in this week’s episode. For starters, the back and forth between Gary and his teacher was hilarious and I wish it would’ve gone on a bit longer. I also really enjoyed the musical montage, and random songs are beginning to become my new favorite feature of Gary And His Demons aside from the action. The show’s opening commercials were well done as well, fans of”Interdimensional Cable” will enjoy a Canadian flavor of that similar bit through a bit more paradoxical and grounded than the ones that we are used to seeing on the Adult Swim series.

Unfortunately, if you are someone that has been favoring the action sequences that Gary And His Demons is known for, you’re gonna have a bad time because there really isn’t any. In fact, we don’t even get to see what kind of metamorphosis Gary goes through in order to become the high school kid which was a bit of a let down for me. Even when Gary turned into a rat at the end (HEY! Gary the Rat! ), we didn’t get to see that as well. We actually do get to find the demon that Gary was looking for, but we’re aren’t drawn to any conclusion as to what happened to it nor how it got there.

We’re officially half-way through the show’s first season, let’s see this show REALLY throw down the axe this second half.
