English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders “D’Arby the Player, Part 2”

Is Part-2 of this storyline a omeh run?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

The episode kicks-off immediately after the last, as Kakyoin uses his higher power level to knock D’Arby off the course during their racing game”, but this turns out to be D’Arby’s plan, who uses the push to land further ahead on the course, resulting in Kakyoin losing the match and having his soul trapped in one of D’Arby’s creepy-ass dolls. Jotaro steps up to face against Terrance in a baseball video game, wagering his soul against Kakyoin’s, despite having never played a video game in his life.

With just Jotaro & Joseph left, Jotaro challenges Terrance to a baseball video game. And at first, starts to get a sloppy-start, but once he gets the hang of it. Although Jotaro gets two of his batters knocked out at the start, and soon figures out the controls by his third batter and scores four home runs, though Terrance uses a change of pitcher to catch Jotaro’s third batter out.

As Terrance goes on the offensive, managing to a couple steps ahead of Jotaro’s actions after declaring his bats and scoring three home runs, Both Joseph & Jotaro are quick to assume that Terrance has the power to read people’s minds, though the episode ends on an intense cliffhanger, Jotaro decides to face Terrance at his own game by declaring his next pitch.

Our Take

While most enemies Team Joestar often encountered were usually stretched into 1-2 part storylines, this feels different as we don’t know how they’ll get out of this one. But at least they know that if all else fails, they have a backup plan up their sleeve in the form of Avdol, Polnareff, and Iggy.

Team Joestar still has a long way to go before they get to Dio despite already entering his territory and while the Cel-shaded Animation was impressive in places, it shouldn’t have to drag with a baseball game for the sake of raising tension.

Let’s hope the next episode Team Joestar finds a quick solution out of this one.
