English Dub Review: Devils’ Line “Ouroburos”

If there is a delicious looking Trap, of course, we fell for it.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Anzai and Tsukasa are in full nostalgia mode about their love story so far. Which is a given before a big operation where everything can, and will, go wrong. Anzai is warned to stop his disruptive behavior or else, and Tsukasa, yet again, insists to be part of an officially sanctioned operation. And yet again she is allowed.

Best Man Lee is chilling around during preparations and soon the action ensues with the operation to raid the CCC’s HQ. Everything goes down south quickly. Homeless hobos are found shot and soon the team is swarmed by devils. Anzai decides to intervene, despite that he has been warned, about it to play the hero and saved both Ishimaru and Sawazaki.

Then the plot twist, both Ishimaru, and Makimura are double agents hunting down the true final boss behind the CCC.

Oh yeah, Anzai is mortally wound and left bleeding on the roof.

Our take

Where to start? The episode has good action, and the double bluff by Ishimaru and Makimura was something that caught me off-guard, which was really unexpected. What it was not unexpected was the trap laid for the F Squad. I don’t know about the rest of the team, but at least Ishimaru should have seen the signs earlier when they started to find bodies around.

I don’t know what they tried to accomplish by blowing their undercover, but it it’s obvious that Kikuhara outsmarted them from the get-go. Speaking of the latter, what is his deal with Anzai’s father? By his speech, it’s clear that the guy has a social agenda to direct his actions, but I have yet to figure out where Anzai and his father are placed on this because he shooting Anzai makes no sense with his past actions.

Sniper-chan and Hacker-kun where kind of useless on this one, and why the other hidden sniper didn’t rain lead upon Tsukasa and Lee, or at least upon the rest of the team?

From the production value, the animation was all over the place, especially with the blood, that seemed like neon red painting at times. The frame rate also looked droppy at random intervals and the scenes were annoying dark at moments.

And I just want to reaffirm that Tsukasa is not exactly mentally stable.
