English Dub Review: Devils’ Line “Offline”

This got hot and steamy really fast.

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS BELOW)

We start the episode as we left it last week, with Tsukasa being rescued by our beloved Guardian Devil Anzai. And the latter seems to have gained some measure of control over his inner demon, to the surprise of many including himself.

For some reason, they didn’t mention Ushio’s duplicity to the cops and, to my surprise, the pair clear out the misunderstandings between them and decided to start dating officially. Now, I am not a dating expert, but I am pretty sure that they jump one too many hops in their relationship progression if their following actions are any indication. I will explain more in a bit.

Tsukasa is now living in the bar for her protection, and Anzai´s mom actually showed up and her husband seems to be a perpetual guest at ONLO.

OUR TAKE

Now, I haven’t read the manga, but I do know that it has an NFSW level of content that I doubt will pop up in the adaption in an explicit fashion, which is one of the reasons why Tsukasa and Anzai extremely making out session caught me by surprise. For a moment I really thought that the series would turn into a Hentai and, while it didn’t get that far, I wasn’t expecting it at all.

It seems that Anzai has some repressed sexual drive and Tsukasa, who was more or less painted under an ‘innocent’ light, seems to have her own desires pushing forward. Always the shy ones, the saying goes. And I believe that the kiss scene, you know which one, was kind of lame. I know that he is not their first time kissing, but this is actually the first while being an official couple. I was waiting for the sparks and rainbows to show up on this one.

In another note, it is just me or Sniper-chan turned sides really quick. I mean, one moment she was advocating for the generalized extermination for the devils, and in the next she kinds of gives her support to Tsukasa’s and Anzai’s relationship. Did I miss something here? Or the transition from the manga to the anime swallowed up crucial information? It will not be the first time, but I am rather confused on this one.

There were other things going on this chapter, I felt, but quite frankly the temperature was too high for my brain cells to work properly so I may come back to see it again, for research purposes of course. What can I say? The doctors are not the only ones with the permission of being certified voyeurs watching teens going on each other in the name of SCIENCE!
