English Dub Review: Kakuriyo -Bed and Breakfast for Spirits-“I Looked After a Snow Woman and an Earth Spider”
Sickness and confrontation abound on this week’s Kakuriyo
Overview (Spoilers Below)
This time on Kakuriyo, Aoi must nurse Oryou back to health from some kind of disease. She does her best to give some tender love and care, but Oryou turns out to have some kind of snow person disease. Aoi eventually uses her spirit knowledge to bring Oryou back from the brink, and the two end up developing some kind of friendship with each other, each of them stuck in the castle in their own way. Oryou shares her life story with Aoi, and explains how hard she worked to become independent, and how much it breaks her heart that the master is paying more attention to Aoi. To celebrate their new friendship, Aoi receives a rose-colored glass bowl from Oryou, which becomes a treasured item of Aoi’s.
In the second story of the episode, two of the servants, Suzuran and Akatsuki, in spider form, fight with each other, and of course, Aoi gets caught in the middle of it. The fight eventually ends when Oodanna shows up to keep the peace, and ends up explaining to Aoi the nature of their conflict. In her conversation with Oodanna, Aoi explains what she learned from Oryou, and the two end up doing so good-natured flirting. The next morning, Akatsuki, Oryou, and Aoi enjoy a home-cooked meal in the bed and breakfast together, and Aoi learns that her cooking carries a spiritual power to rejuvenate the spirits.
Our Take:
Steady as she goes on Kakuriyo this week. It’s a happy little slice of life about spirits and that’s exactly what you get from it. The conflicts felt real enough for a show like this, and there are some genuinely cute moments from Aoi that stay with the show. Not to mention, there a couple of tearjerker moments in this episode that keeps things strung along. So overall, it’s pretty solid.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
