Review: Family Guy “Veteran Guy”

Salute!

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe are ordered by a judge to serve in the Coast Guard after masquerading as fake veterans except for Quagmire who is, in fact, a vet but agrees to join his comrades in the punishment being dished out to save face with his father. The four relocate to Ft. Lauderdale, but Quagmire’s the only one taking the Coast Guard assignment seriously so he decides to leave leaving Peter and the guys to have to deal with a local militia of frat boys planning to carry out an attack.

Joe, Cleveland, and Peter try to apprehend the bad guys but are outnumbered and outgunned, but Quagmire is able to make the save. Unfortunately, the frat guys planted a bomb on the ship and both Peter and Quagmire have to get rid of it before it explodes. Peter checks in with home and gives us a nice send-off.

Our Take

As expected, all the hoopla about the World of Warcraft scene in this week’s episode of Family Guy was for a “blink and you’ll miss it” gag that was actually a lot of fun but not worth the network getting all moist about it earlier in the week. All in all, this week’s episode played more like a cross with Hawaii Five-O more than anything else and fans of The Last Ship have a couple of gags to look forward to as well. I can’t help but think whenever I see Cleveland’s entire family that we’re not missing out on episodes co-starring some of the more seldom used characters, but giving the stiff one-eye to the US Coast Guard is good enough for me.
