English Dub Series Review: Garo: Vanishing Line

Oh, Garo.

Garo: Vanishing Line does one thing, and only one thing well, kick major ass all over the place. Having said that, for a 26-episode anime series to work, you’ve got to have some sort of a plot, and we get that here for sure. This time around, the Makai Knight is in the form of Sword who wants to find out what “El Dorado” is all about and meets a young girl named “Sophie” along the way who wants to find out the same thing as she thinks it has something to do with her brother being missing. All of that is really just the yeast to keep the bread nice and fluffy, but underneath it all, we just wanna see Sword destroy Horrors and this show does that just fine.

Along the way, Sword brings with him, allies to help in his quest for admonishing evil. His trusty mechanical pal Zaruba, who of course controls a bad-ass motorcycle. Makai alchemist Gina is clearly the love interest of Sword but don’t think she’s all lovey-dovey, she drives around in a crazy-ass muscle car and just as adept at kicking Horror ass as anyone else. And then there’s Luke, the son of our main antagonist “Knight” who is out to do battle with the Golden Knight himself.

The aforementioned “Knight” works for the King of El Dorado who has an army of his own, comprised mostly of Makai alchemists like Bishop, Queen, and Stanley, tasked with kidnapping Sophie for the purposes of returning her to the King of whom we eventually find out is, in fact, Sophie’s brother Martin. At the end of the day, the plot to Garo: Vanishing Line is part Matrix, part Lord of the Rings, but who cares? That’s not why we watch Garo. Hell, none of the English dub voice castings, save for Madeleine Morris, is even that memorable and rife with cliche.

The real reason we watch Garo: Vanishing Line…the over-the-top fight scenes. And boy, do the producers of this series know how to choreograph ridiculously nuts anime fight scenes featuring magic, sword might, and everything in between when you consider the limitless possibilities that come with having a species as malleable as the Horrors.

All in all, Garo: Vanishing Line is a crazy ass series for those that love crazy ass series.
