English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “Into the Future Once Again: Black’s Identity Revealed “
“Never Been Kissed”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
While Beerus cares little about the state of the future. In his mind, the power of Gods means one change is capable of changing all timelines. Of course, there’s still room for debate, as Future Trunks is determined to go back to his timeline and make sure if it’s changed for the better, as he ‘s still a believer of the multiverse/alternate timeline theory much to Beerus’s anger. Taking precautionary measures, everyone is on-board with Future Trunks’ suggestion, but Beerus refuses to go to the future with the legit excuse that it’s illegal for Gods to tamper with flow time, but Future Trunks also makes a valid point that if time was really altered, he would’ve returned to his own timeline, and theoretically, Future Bulma would also still be alive.
After a comedically awkward dinner scene where they decide to eat before they go through with Future Trunks’ idea, We do get an info dump that takes up most of the running time of Trunks explaining to his kid-self how Alternate timelines work, but at least Kid Trunks now understands why his future-self would have his doubts over Beerus’s claims. As the group prepares to return 17 years into the future with Bulma tagging along by bringing the Senzu beans with her, along with the valid excuse that if Future Trunks stays in the future, they’ll need someone else to pilot the time machine back home. It also leads to a fun comedic moment where all four of them attempt to squeeze inside the confined space of the time machine like a clown-car. As all four of them travel to the future, they discover that Beerus’s actions didn’t really change anything and Future Trunks’ timeline is still the dystopian post-apocalyptic shit-hole that it was before.
Immediately after landing, they encounter a freedom fighter who reports that Future Mai has been injured, which results in Future Trunks having to help Mai eat a Senzu Bean via mouth-to-mouth, but it leads to a funny yet puzzling scene when Goku claims to have never kissed anyone in his life, with even Vegeta pointing out that he’s supposed to be married, but Goku just shrugs Vegeta’s question… I know this shouldn’t bother me but I’m just so damn puzzled by Goku’s words. I mean, C’mon! You’d think kissing his wife would be second nature to him next to martial arts and eating excessively, not to mention, he’s the father of two kids with Chi-Chi as their mother! After Bulma meets Future Mai and Yajirobe, she gives them food and supplies. However, Goku Black and Zamasu can sense their presence which leads the resistance and the other survivors to stay indoors while Vegeta comes up with a plan to defeat Black first since he isn’t Immortal. As the two genocidal maniacs arrive, Goku tells them they know about their master plan of Zamasu using the Super Dragon Balls to be immortal and create a fake copy of Goku, However the episode ends when Black corrects Goku’s assumption with one of the most ridiculously confusing plot-twists in recent memory…
Our Take
That cliffhanger… was so painfully confusing this week, that simply talking about it is a little weird to comprehend… I really do hope that the next episode further clarifies the massive mindfuckery Black just revealed about himself. I think where the episode shined the most for me was it’s character moments. From Future Trunks further interacting with his kid-self to Bulma interacting with Future Mai after going to the future with our 3 Saiyan Protagonists, but the scene with Goku revealing that he doesn’t know what the fuck a Kiss was, was so damn baffling.
Aside from the cringe-worthy reveal of Goku having never kissed his wife, It was still an excellent episode that managed to give proper breathing room and levity to help keep it from being too violent & bleak while further unraveling the ongoing mystery of who Goku Black is.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
