Review: We Bare Bears “The Park”

Let’s go to the park!

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

The episode begins when the Bears all go to the public park for different reasons. Grizz is getting in shape at the weightlifting section, only to get into trouble when his duffel bag is switched by accident due to it being near identical to someone else’s bag, Panda attempts to make & sell caricature art which looks very anime-inspired, and Ice Bear after performing his acrobatic ninja-like skills at a playground, ends up teaching the kids some of his tricks. You do get a sense that all of them are well-intentioned in their personal goals but the story starts to pick up when Grizz can’t find his duffel bag and devotes most of the running time on Grizz actively pursuing it.

When the story reaches its third act, everything falls into place when Panda proceeds to put his drawing skills to use when helping a cop who earlier, almost gave him trouble, Grizz shows his moral principles in a comedic way while seeking his duffel bag and Ice Bear’s subplot was both funny & entertaining at how calm and well-disciplined these kids were when he taught them his special skills, but the episode ends when all three storylines find a resolution that culminates in different & satisfying ways.

Our Take

While the episode excelled in humor, I felt Grizz & Panda’s situations could’ve easily been resolved if Panda found an audience that wasn’t easily turned off by his art-style and if Grizz had a duffel bag that was further differentiated enough to not be stolen or switched in the first place.  As for Ice Bear’s subplot, I know I’m overthinking this for a comedy, but where are the parents of all these unsupervised children that Ice Bear trained?

The cop that Panda encounters is what stole the show for me the most, as I didn’t know you needed a permit to draw in a public setting but by the end of the episode, he kinda redeemed himself enough to give me a good laugh during the proceedings.
