Overview:

Finn hunts down the witch to find a way to reverse the doubles, but the witch flees. With Maggee’s help, they find a spellbook with a hint in it and try to stop the flood of clones overpowering the Candy Kingdom.

Our Take:

It turns out not all the doubles are out to make trouble, either. The Maggee that was traveling with them turns out to be a clone seeking out the original. While the Maggee clones generally run rampant with good will, her very first clone wants to help her. In interacting with her family, the Maggee clone realized that her family did actually value her, and sought her out to try and make that clear. She didn’t tell Finn and Jake because she feared they would see her as another monster. However, she still is driven by the desire to do good, namely, help reunite her original self with her parents, and help her newfound friends. It’s consistent with clone behavior, but she still retains a sense of restraint. For that, she’s rewarded by also being accepted into Maggee’s family, for good.

In the end, Finn and Jake do learn… sort of. What the witch says is right: they really don’t want to take responsibility and are more interested in a Q3 quick fix. They don’t really seem to learn a lesson overall, but they do end up having to take responsibility by cleaning up all the broken mirror shards. Still, this arc ended up being not really about the main duo at all, and more about Maggee. The clones running around the Candy Kingdom are the fault of Finn and Jake, of course, but what really drives the story is Magee’s plea for help and her subsequent aid. This isn’t a bad thing– since the main duo are only there to move the plot along, it allows a background character the chance to shine, and in the end, work towards finding her own form of happiness. It’s rare for the story to be so heavily driven by a non-recurring character, but this time it works.
